2 ‘terrorists’ arrested in Bahawalpur
BAHAWALPUR: Bahawalpur police foiled a major terror bid by arresting two suspected terrorists of banned Tehreek–e–Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Waziristan’s Qari Imran Group on Tuesday. Police also seized a huge cache of explosives from their custody. Bahawalpur District Police Officer (DPO) Sohail Habib Tajik, in a press conference, said that rocket launchers, grenades, three suicide jackets, 23 anti–personnel mines, 40 kilogrammes of explosives and other arms and ammunition were also seized from the two miscreants. The suspected terrorists were identified as Muhammad Shabbir and Maulvi Muhammad Riaz.
He said the suspects were arrested from Bahawalwala area of Ahmadpur Sharqia on information of intelligence agencies. They were on a mission on a motorbike to carry out a terrorist act, Tajik added. He said the accused, during interrogation, have admitted that they have hidden a huge quantity of arms and explosives underground in a drum.
