Bahawalpur: Major terrorist bid foiled; 2 arrested
BAHAWALPUR: Bahawalpur police has foiled a major terrorist bid in the Southern Punjab region by arresting two militants engaged in planning terrorist activities. Tehrik–e–Taliban and Lashkar-e-Kharasan’s Muhammad Shabbir alias Shabi of Mauza Ali Kharrak, Ahmedpur East and Maulvi Muhammad Riaz of Mohalla Quresha Abad, Ahmedpur East were wanted by police in various heinous crimes and were arrested from Pul Bahawal Wah, Ahmedpur East. They were arrested while riding a bike without number plate at a check-post. Arms and ammunition including 4 rockets, 1 rocket launcher, 3 suicide jackets, one circuit watch, 4 hand grenades, 2 pistols and other weapons were recovered from the accused on their pointation from the house of Shabbir.
This was disclosed by the DPO, Bahawalpur, Sohail Habib Tajik in a hurriedly called Press conference here on Tuesday at Police Lines, Bahawalpur.
He said that both the accused were involved in the attack at the office of the ISI, Multan.
The DPO stated that important installations including Army installations, airports, jails, police stations, major offices in the South Punjab were in their hit list.
He further said that they were experts in bomb making and cases have been registered against them.
He said that investigations were underway and further revelations were expected as the two belonged to militant groups.
