Karachi: TTP activist held with arms, grenades
KARACHI: The personnel of Anti–Extremism Cell (AEC) arrested an activist of banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) from Sohrab Goth area and recovered arms and hand grenades from his possession on Tuesday. According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mohammed Aslam Khan of AEC, they received information that some members of banned TTP were present in Macher Colony in Sohrab Goth area. Acting on the tip, police conducted a raid at their hideout. Upon seeing the police the militants opened fire and a shootout ensued following which Islaamuddin Barki alias Kaana was arrested, while his accomplices fled under the cover of fire.
The police also recovered a Kalashnikov, three hand grenades, a TT pistol and several bullets of various calibers from his possession. Barki was an active member of the banned TTP and he was assigned the task to extort money from the traders and business people in Karachi.
During initial interrogation, Burki revealed that he had recently delivered death threats to a trader in Sachal area from whom he had been demanding Rs 0.5 million. Earlier, the suspect used to supply arms to the activists of banned militant organisations in Karachi. Further investigation was underway.
