Karachi: Cop among 4 gunned down
KARACHI: Four people, including a policeman, were gunned down in the city, police said on Tuesday. ASI Mohsin Ali was shot dead on Kashmir Road in Khudadad Colony, Brigade. SP Asad Raza of the Gulshan Division said the ASI was posted at the Brigade police station and a resident of the Brigade Police Lines. “He was heading for the police station in the morning when four men on two motorcycles, two of them wearing helmets, sprayed him with bullets.” The ASI was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where he expired. The police official said the victim had suffered multiple bullet wounds to various parts of his body including two to his head. The police found empty pistol bullet shells at the crime scene. The ASI had actively participated in several operations against criminal elements. He was earlier posted as the record keeper at the Ferozabad police station. He has left behind a widow and children.
Two watchmen killed
Two watchmen were murdered and another injured in the wee hours of the day in Frontier Colony No 2, Peerabad. Sub–Divisional Police Officer Rustam Nawaz of the Peerabad Division said five men on motorcycles had arrived in the area at around 4:15am and opened fire on Zamin Khan, ZakirHussain and Hayat Gul, the watchmen of the area.
The three men were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH), where Khan and Hussain succumbed to their injuries, while Gul managed to survive.
In his statement, Gul said the assailants had first hurled abuses at them. “When Zamin and Zakir saw those men holding weapons, they tried to escape, but the attackers opened fire on them and escaped.”
The police officer said the two victims had suffered multiple bullet wounds. The police found 38 empty 9mm pistol bullet shells at the spot.
The victims were residents of Frontier Colony and hailed from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
A tailor was killed at a shop in Sector-5F, New Karachi.
Sub-Divisional Police Officer Chaudhry Mohammad Akhtar of the New Karachi Division said three men, one of them wearing a helmet, entered the Shahzad Tailor Shop and opened fire on Mohammad Zahid.
He was taken to the ASH, where he breathed his last. The victim was the brother of the shop’s owner and worked there.
The police officer said Zahid had suffered three bullet wounds to his head.
The police found empty 30–bore pistol bullet shells at the murder scene. Zahid was a resident of Rajput Colony, New Karachi.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the victim was a supporter of the AhleSunnatWalJamaat.
