Lahore: ACE registers cases against 120 patwaris, 4 SOs
LAHORE: The Anti Corruption Establishment (ACE) registered a case against 120 patwaris and four section officers (SO) of the Revenue and Irrigation Department (RID) and was raiding for their arrest, sources in the ACE said on Monday. The ACE had started inquiry into a scam about six months ago wherein more than 100 fake patwaris were hired and salaries were drawn by the RID senior officers. The eight accused involved in the recruitment of patwaris caused loss of more than 15 million to the national exchequer while drawing salaries of these fake patwaris since 2010, an officer of the accounts department disclosed the matter when salaries were being drawn by some XENs.
The irrigation department started an inquiry into the scam and Irrigation Deputy Secretary Munib Sheikh was assigned the duty who after finalising it declared eight officers as guilty. The case was then referred to the ACE.
The ACE after receiving the complaint started its own inquiry, and summoned all the accused and recorded their statements. Among the accused were Irrigation Deputy Secretary General, Section Officer, Irrigation Department Headquarter Punjab, Muhammad Sajjad and Muhammad Ayub, Former Section Officer ID, Kanwar Anwaar Ali, presently serving as Special Judicial Magistrate, Model Town while he was also section officer at the time of irregularities.
The ACE also summoned XEN Irrigation, Rab Nawaz, Sahiwal, XEN, Irrigation Minawali, Khalid Bashir, XEN Lahore Saqib Rehmani, District Accounts Officer, Sahiwal, Abdul Basit, who would help in investigation.
Also, the ACE started an inquiry against executive district officer (EDO) health, City District Government Lahore, on his alleged involvement in recruiting 75 clerks after getting bribe of RS 0.2 million per head, sources in ACE confided to scribe on Monday.
They disclosed that the ACE authorities had repeatedly summoned EDO Dr Inamul Haq to appear before the inquiry officer but he failed to do so.
