Bahawalpur: Man sentenced to death, fined
BAHAWALPUR: Anti–Terrorism Court Judge Sohail Akram sentenced an accused to death in a kidnapping for ransom–cum–murder case. The court also awarded 17 years imprisonment and fine besides the convict would have to forfeit his property as penalty. According prosecution, the convict kidnapped 14–year–old Muhammad Amjad, son of Muhammad Iqbal Panoo and demanded Rs0.5 million ransom for his release. However, he did not free Amjad despite receiving Rs200,000 and sexually assaulted him. Later, he killed the boy by choking him with a muffler and buried his body in an onion crop fields.
The Uch Sharif Police registered a case under Section 365-A/302 PPC and Section 7 of Anti-Terrorism Act 1997 against him on request of the boy’s father.
The police arrested the accused and recovered the body. In the meantime, the accused attempted to run away from the judicial lock-up but the police arrested him again.
The convict would have to undergo additional three years and nine months imprisonment if he fails to pay the fine.
