Peshawar: Jailed over Haj fraud
PESHAWAR: An accountability court here on Wednesday convicted the managing director and a director of a Haj tour operating agency for misappropriating money from intending pilgrims and sentenced both to four years rigorous imprisonment each with a fine of Rs6.2 million. The court presided over by Syed MussadiqHussainGillani observed that the prosecution had proved its case against the two accused persons, Nusratullah Khan and NizarulHaq, the managing director and director of Pak Harmain Travels and Tours Islamabad respectively.
A reference was filed against the accused by the National Accountability Bureau (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa). NAB alleged that the accused persons received Rs8.2 million from 113 persons on the pretext of sending them to perform Haj but failed to do so. The affected persons also included 65 teachers of University of Peshawar and their relatives.
