3 cops among 53 injured in Jaranwala clash
JARANWALA: As many as 53 people, including three constables, were injured when two sects clashed with each other over the passage of a rally at Masjid Bazaar here on Friday. Various religious parties took out a rally against the anti–Islam movie and blasphemous sketches after Friday prayers. The protesters passed outside a mosque, belonging to a sect, where a protest meeting was being held against the blasphemous movie. In the meantime, the rally participants chanted slogans against the sect and tried to pass from the place where the protest meeting was going on.
At this, a fight broke out between the participants of the rally and the protest meeting. People from both sides threw stones at each other. As a result, 50 people were injured and shifted to Civil Hospital. Some people climbed the roof of the mosque and resorted to aerial firing. A heavy contingent of police reached the spot and tried to control the situation, but in vain.
