Islamabad: 40 film rioters, arsonists, 17 criminals held; 204 bottles of wine, weapons seized
ISLAMABAD: Taking the issue of looting at free will and other heinous crimes in the federal capital during the recent rioting against an anti–Islam movie more seriously, the Islamabad police on Thursday arrested 40 more arsonists and looters who acted in the guise of protesters. “Charges against them include rioting, arson and looting done on two doomed days of September 20 and 21. The new arrests have been made on tip-offs from the 25 persons arrested last week on the same charges,” a police spokesman said. They have been nabbed by the Tarnol and Sabzi Mandi police, he added. IG Bani Amin Khan and SSP YaseenFarooq have directed all the station house officers (SHOs) to ensure effective crackdown against the remaining miscreants, the spokesman further said at a briefing with journalists. Meanwhile, police have arrested 17 other outlaws from various areas of the city and recovered from them one van, 204 bottles of wine and weapons. On a tip-off, Sub–Inspector Javed Hussain of the Kohsar Police Station arrested Sharif alias Peter, Boota Masih, Atif and Yusuf during the routine patrolling and recovered 67 bottles of wine and 75 cans of beer from their possession. Sub–Inspector Liaqat Ali arrested three bootleggers, identified as Arif alias Butt, Saeed alias Bhola and Kashi for possessing 48 bottles of wine.
Likewise, ASI Muhammad Nawaz of the Secretariat Police Station arrested Afzal who was possessing two bottles of wine, while ASI Asim Ali of the Kohsar Police Station nabbed Maqsood Masih and recovered 12 bottles of wine from him. ASI Gul Khan of the Sabzi Mandi Police Station also apprehended Fazal ur Rehman and recovered stolen cash and a CNIC from him. Loi Bher’s Sub–Inspector Muhammad Ishaq arrested four persons, identified as Asif, Shahid Musa, Ayesha Shaukat and Sobia for their alleged involvement in immoral activities. ASI Muhammad Tariq of Sihala arrested Raja Sohail Farooq for possessing a 30-bore pistol, while ASI Khuram Shabbir arrested Rafaqat Mehmud for possessing a 30–bore pistol. Insepctor Muhammad Aslam of the Anti–Car Lifting Cell recovered a tampered Suzuki van (LWB–8832) from an accused, Jameel Azad.
