Karachi: Robber convicted
KARACHI: A sessions court on Wednesday sentenced a man to 11 years in prison in a robbery case and for injuring a person. Amanullah was found guilty of depriving Idrees Abbasi of a cellphone and other valuables near City Railway Colony and also causing him injuries in December 2009. Additional district and sessions judge (south) Shahid Hussain Chandio pronounced the verdict after recording evidence and arguments from both sides. The court awarded seven years term under Section 397 (punishment for robbery or dacoity with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) and four years under Section 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery) of the Pakistan Penal Code. A fine of Rs10,000 was also imposed on the convict and in case of non-payment he would have to undergo an additional two–month imprisonment. However, both sentences will run concurrently, according to the judgment.
Earlier, the jail authorities had produced the accused before the court in custody.
While extending the benefit of Section 382–B (period of detention to be considered while awarding sentence of imprisonment) of the criminal procedure code, the court remanded the convict back to prison along with the conviction warrant to serve out the remainder of his sentence.
