Lahore: Dacoit cop arrested along with accomplice
LAHORE: A police constable and his accomplice, a peon of the Punjab Auqaf Department, were rounded up red–handed by Mohafiz Squad in Racecourse Police precincts on Monday. Police concerned have pronounced them habitual dacoits involved in several armed robberies, acts of mobile and cash snatching and other felony acts in different parts of the City in past. They have been identified as Muhammad Umair, a police constable, and his accomplice Muhammad Waseem, a peon, and residents of Shahdara.
As per details, Umair had been discharging his duties in Qila Gujjar Singh Police Lines since long whereas Waseem was deputed in aforesaid department since long. “They have confessed to committing several crimes including holding the victims at gunpoint in different police areas of the City in broad daylight and in thick darkness,” police sources said, adding the constable-cum-dacoit Umair has termed his criminal habit as the outcome of severe financial concerns.
Reportedly, the confined cop has blamed his big guns of exploiting the subordinate class commonly known as lower cadre while embezzling police funds.
Sources said on Monday morning on the tip-off police chased two motorbike riders and held them on gunpoint in Racecourse police limits. “They were fleeing after looting a citizen, depriving him off cash and cell phone, and were ultimately held,” they added.
Later, they were booked under criminal charges with Racecourse Police. Further investigation is underway.
