RAWALPINDI: A reported crime figure disclosed that a young girl is gang–raped (not raped) every week in Rawalpindi, challenging writ of law enforcing agencies that are, virtually, working under the influence of mighty politicians and mafias. But an incident of one of the worst instance of gang–rape occurred during the last days of August 2012 that, not only ruined the dignity of women, but also shamed the humanity, which strengthening the people’s believe that there is no law here. The trembling incident occurred on August 28, 2012 when a 22-year-old student of BEd was kidnapped in broad daylight from Kotli Satian bazaar by a gang of youth, enjoying support of political and influential families, humiliated her by ripping–up her clothes, dragging her and shoving grass and grime in her mouth before sexual assault. Although, she doesn’t want to hide her identity saying that she has nothing with her by which she can recuperate her respect after being raped, but her name would not be disclosed in the this report.
The victim, hailing from village Jhengla Gallah, Malot Satian, Kotli Satian, after losing hope due to police bias finally knocked at the door of the Supreme Court of Pakistan to seek impartiality and sent an application to the Chief Justice of Pakistan requesting to take suomoto notice and provide her justice.
The young victim, in her application submitted to the Supreme Court of Pakistan, said, she belonged to a poor and inconsequential family of the town, but she decided to get education to counter poverty of her family. “I am hailing from Jhangla Gallah, Malot Satian, a village of Tehsil Kotli Satian and student of BEd. On August 28, 2012, I was walking to Kotli Satian bazaar for shopping when I saw my fiancé Gul Hameed Abbasi, who is my neighbour too, in the bazaar who offered me lunch and we left the bazaar in his vehicle to Rawalpindi. After moving a few hundred yards on the road, some people riding in 3 to 4 cars and two bikes, intercepted our car and the assailants dragged Hameed Abbasi from the car and started thrashing him inhumanly. The assailants were Azhar, Ejaz alias Jiji, SherBaz, Atif, Sajjad and Waqas, all residents of Tehsil Kotli Satian. Azhar and his unknown aides, later, loaded Gul Hameed Abbasi in a black car and moved to Kotli Satian,” the victim said in the application, adding, “While, Sajjad Atif and Waqas rode with her on Abbasi’s loader type vehicle and others boarded on open back and drove to a link road.” She said that they kept torturing her on their way to unknown destination.
She said that as they reached an unknown place, they humiliated her by dragging her on the ground, ripped-up her clothes and shoved grass and grime in her mouth before sexual assault. “They, later, tied my hands behind with my ‘dupatta’, stuffed clothes in my mouth and gang rapped me,” she maintained and added that the area police played biased role towards the criminals under the political influence. “Due to the police protection, a key accused, Waqas, managed to escape abroad while another, Ejaz alias Jaji, was moving about in the area without hindrance due to his political influence,” she concluded with the request of providing justice to her in her application with the Supreme Court.
The victim remained in Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH) for over a week in critical condition. While, medical report confirmed the gang rape.
On the other hand, the area police claimed that they have arrested most of the alleged rapists, but have no answer to reply why one of the key accused has left the country and the other was roaming in the area without any resistance. The police denied the allegation that the police have succumbed to political influence and following the directions of political bigwigs about the case.
