Rawalpindi: 9 kg heroin smuggling bid to Europe foiled
RAWALPINDI: The customs staff, in a breakthrough, foiled an attempt to transport a huge quantity of heroin powder to Europe at the Benazir Bhutto International Airport in the wee hours of Friday, sources in the customs said. Mehr Ali Shah, son of Manzoor Ali Shah, a resident of the Head Barrage Colony, Mandi Bahauddin, District Gujrat, having passport number FK-5144353, was travelling to Brussels, Belgium, by flight EY-232 at 1:30 a.m.
The customs staff intercepted him when he reached the International Departure of the Benazir Bhutto International Airport, they said.
Sources said that about 9 kilograms of heroin was recovered from specially made cavities in his two suitcases. He was shifted to the Customs Cell for further investigation.
During the course of investigation, the arrested man confessed to his links with the international drug mafia based in different countries of Europe, sources in the customs said and added that the accused has identified members of the drug mafia in Pakistan, who would be hunted down as first priority.
