Lahore: Police kill 2 ‘robbers’
LAHORE: Two alleged robbers were killed in ‘shootouts’ with police in the provincial capital on Monday. Cantonment SP (Operations) Maroof Safdar Wahla told Dawn three armed men snatched a motorcycle from Nadeem in Muslimabad Colony in Ghaziabad police limits and escaped. A Rescue 15 emergency call alerted Mohafiz Force officials who stopped a suspected bike at a picket not far from the spot. The suspects instead opened fire on the police which was retaliated as a result of which one of the suspects died on the spot, while the two others managed to escape on another bike towards Harbanspura.
The SP claimed Mohafiz Force officials intercepted the runaway suspects at another picket nearby and exchanged fire. One of the two suspects was killed while the third one fled the scene.
Wahla said the police later identified the dead suspects as Sharif alias Feroze of Chungi Amar Sidhu and Abbas alias Ali of Fatehgarh, Harbanspura.
The police seized a snatched bike, some looted valuables and illegal weapons from the two spots.
The SP claimed it was established that both the robbers were members of the same gang.
He said the police traced not less than 38 cases of dacoity, robbery, police encounter and robbery with murder against Sharif and Abbas.
The police shifted the bodies for autopsy and registered separate cases.
Meanwhile, an alleged robber who was injured in crossfire with the Factory Area police on Sunday, succumbed to his wounds at Services Hospital on Monday morning. Awais of Main Bazaar, ChahJamunwala, New Samanabad, was injured in an encounter with Shaukat Town Mohafiz Force officials.
He escaped in injured condition after snatching a bike from Mohayyudin after injuring him with gunfire.
