Water row claims 2 lives in Renal Khurd
OKARA: Two people were killed and five others injured in dispute over fetching water from a tap at 8/1AL village, Renala Khurd on Monday. The Gujjar and Arain clans had a dispute over the issue a couple of days ago, but it was resolved. Habib ur Rehman, Shafiqur Rehman, son of Muhammad Yaqoob Arain, with other men were present at their shop when Usman, Adnan, Raju and Bhola, sons of Shafi Gujjar of 9/1AL, Muhammad Boota and his son Javed arrived there with weapons in a pick-up. After a quarrel, they opened fire at both brothers. As a result, Habib died on the spot, while Boota, Amir Hussain, Ibrar, Nadeem and Iqbal were injured. Later, the accused fled.
The injured were shifted to hospital where Boota died. The Renala Khurd Sadr police have registered a case and started investigations. Underground water in the 1AL area is unfit for humans as well as fields. The people are provided water through pipelines connected to tube–wells installed on the bank of Lower Bari Doab Canal. Several people have been killed over water disputes in the area.
