Karachi: Murder suspect acquitted for want of evidence
KARACHI: A man allegedly involved in the Lyari gang war was freed before the conclusion of his trial on Thursday after Additional District and Sessions Judge (South) Shaguffta Siddiqui found him innocent. Mulla Nawaz , who moved an application under Section 265–K of the Criminal Procedure Code, took the plea that he was innocent but he was arrested and implicated in fake cases of murders, attempts to murder, possession of illegal arms and police encounters.
According to the prosecution, the accused was involved in target killing, possession of illegal arms and police encounter cases lodged at the Kalakot police station. The accused, who was arrested on August 1, 2012, contended that despite being in detention for the last several months, no sound proof against him was presented to the court.
The court acquitted Mulla Nawaz under Section 265-K, which empowers the court to acquit any accused at any stage of the trial if it sees no proof and finds it fit to free the under–trial prisoner.
