Karachi: ST, APML activists among 5 gunned down
KARACHI: Five people, including an activist each of the Sunni Tehreek and the All Pakistan Muslim League, were gunned down in different parts of the city on Sunday.
ST activist murdered
An ST activist, 30-year-old Mohammad Saleem was shot dead and 20–year–old Safdar and three-and-a-half-year-old Imra injured in Landhi No 6. They were attacked by two assailants on a motorcycle. The two men and the child were taken to the JPMC, where Saleem breathed his last.
APML worker killed
Arsalaan, 32, was killed and Waqas was injured near Erum Bakery, Liaquatabad No-4, in Super Market police remit in the wee hours. Following receipt of information, police reached the spot and found two people lying injured inside a car. They were immediately taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) where Arsalan breathed his last, while Waqas was admitted for treatment. Arsalan was a resident of B-1 Area, Liaquatabad, while his friend Waqas is residing in Surjani Town.
According to SHO Syed Mohammed Raza, deceased Arsalan had called his friend Waqas for dinner on Saturday night and they were heading towards a hotel situated near Erum Bakery, when two men riding a motorcycle came across them and opened indiscriminate fire on them. Arsalan received four bullet wounds on his chest which became the cause of his death. He was also a worker of APML, as the police apprehended that it could be a target killing incident.
Student shot dead
Twenty-year-old Adil was shot dead near Kamran Chowrangi in Gulistan–e-Jauhar police limits late Saturday night.
Adil son of Pervez was a student of Intermediate and residing in Abdullah Terrace, Block–14, Gulistan-e-Jauhar.
SHO Asif Rauf said that Adil along with his family had taken his mother to Darul Sehat Hospital on Saturday night.
Adil’s father Pervez told the police that during their stay at the hospital Adil had been continuously receiving calls from some people for two hours, which he did not attend.
Finally, Adil received a call from the same people and told them that he shall be out in five minutes and left the hospital but did not return and later they received the news of his death.
Witnesses told the police that Adil was sitting on a motorcycle with two suspects who stopped the bike at a short distance from Kamran Chowrangi and after hurling abuses they dropped him from the motorcycle and shot him dead. His body was moved to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for postmortem. Police said that the murder seemed to be a part of some dispute between friends as the family did not have any enmity. Police were trying to develop information from the cellphone number in order to trace the suspects involved in Adil’s murder.
Two targeted in Baldia
Forty-five-year-old Ameer Shah and Usman were gunned down at Abbas Hotel situated in Ittehad Town, Baldia. In Moachko police limits in the wee hours.
According to Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Ahmed Baig of Baldia Division, deceased Ameer Shah was the owner of Abbas Hotel while Usman was his labourer. They were busy in their routine work late Saturday night, when two men, riding a motorcycle, appeared there and sprayed them with bullets.
They were taken to Civil Hospital where they were pronounced dead. The deceased received multiple bullet wounds on their upper torso. Police seized empty casings of 9mm pistol from the spot for forensic test.
Police said that the double murder seemed to be a part of target killing but they were investigating the matter with other angles as well.
