Rawalpindi: Fleeing robbers injure policeman
RAWALPINDI: Dacoits shot injured a cop, who was passing through the road in Saddar Bazaar near the place from where they were fleeing after looting a shop in broad daylight on Monday. The cop was shifted to the hospital in critical condition where doctors were trying to save his life. The Cantonment Police have taken up the case but failed to arrest any of the attackers. The police, quoting statement of the manager of Jamaal Traders, located in front of Poonch House, said that a gang of dacoits, equipped with guns, stormed into the shop at about 10.30 a.m. and held staff at gunpoint and escaped after looting cash and other valuables.
The police, quoted witnesses, said that while fleeing from the crime scene, they targeted a uniformed cop, Arsalan, who was walking on the road near a franchise shop of a mobile phone company, hundreds of yards away from the crime scene, and shot him wounded, just to create panic among the people. Passersby shifted the cop to the hospital in critical condition.
In another episode of looting spree, four gunmen hitting a house of a doctor at Dhoke Paracha, in the jurisdiction of Sadiqabad Police Station, looted gold, cash and other valuables worth millions of rupees after detaining housemates in a room, the police said.
The police, quoting the statement of complainant, Dr. Munir Ahmad, resident of Dhoke Paracha, said that four gunmen entered to his house and confined all family members in a room after holding them at gunpoint, adding that they collected gold ornaments weighing 32 tolas with cash and other valuables worth Rs2 million and ran away.
