3 prisoners escape from Haripur prison
HARIPUR: Three prisoners serving life–imprisonment in various cases escaped from the district jail on Saturday night, sources said. The escapees included Tariq belonging to Peshawar, who was serving 25–year imprisonment in a murder case, Sohrab Sher and Afsar, hailing from Nowshera district. They were undergoing imprisonment 50–year jail term, the sources added. The duo had been convicted in a murder case. Another prisoner Safdar, who was trying to scale the boundary wall, was shot and injured by the cops.
Taking serious note of the negligence on the part of the prison officials, the jail superintendent Masood placed under suspension the officials, including Hameed Gul, Akhtar Zaman, Mohammad Ibrahim, Manzoor Khan, Mohammad Yasir, Mohammad Saeed, SherBahadur, Jamal Din, Shah Qaiser, Sakhawat Hussain and Zamrak Khan while two prisoners Bakhtawar and Khalid were charged under sections 224 and 323 PPC for being hand in glove with the escapees.
Following the incident, the police launched search operation in the surrounding areas to re-arrest the prisoners but there was no word about any arrest till the filing of this report.
