Lahore: 2 robbers killed in shootout with police
LAHORE: Two alleged robbers were killed in a ‘shootout’ with police shortly after they looted two people and injured another in Kahna area on Tuesday. Model Town SP (Operations) Awais Malik told Dawn that two robbers, riding a bike, snatched a motorcycle from a man in Industrial Area and sped away. The suspects, the SP said, then stopped a car occupied by journalist Ameen Bhatti and his wife near Abdullah Bin Umer seminary in Gajjumatta. They deprived Ms Bhatti of her purse. Police said the outlaws initially fired at the car.
The SP said the suspects then tried to stop another car and opened fire on it when the driver tried to speed away. As a result, 50-year-old Haji Liaqat was injured.
He said a Mohafiz Force team patrolling the area confronted the robbers, ensuing a crossfire in which both outlaws were killed. The SP said the dead robbers could not be identified so far.
Police shifted the bodies to Jinnah Hospital’s morgue for autopsy, while the injured was admitted to Lahore General Hospital.
