Karachi: Smuggled oil worth Rs11m seized
KARACHI: The Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) of the Customs Preventive Karachi seized Iranian Oil worth over 11 million rupees on Thursday. Pursuing information that a huge quantity of Iranian diesel was being smuggled, the ASO intercepted an oil tanker that was carrying 40,000 litres of the product. The driver of the vehicle and his helper were arrested, while the tanker was seized. Petroleum products of Iranian origin were smuggled from Iran via Balochistan and supplied to petrol pumps and other secret sales points in Karachi as well as its outskirts.
After smuggling the product into the country, traffickers usually used the Hub area of Balochistan to temporarily store the products before using small link roads and other less busy routes to transport the oil to its destination.
