Quetta: Khuzdar journalist’s son shot dead
QUETTA: Unidentified gunmen Thursday killed Khuzdar Press Club President Nadeem Gurgnari’s son and wounded another in the district, about 360km southeast of the provincial. Siraj Ahmed and his brother Manzoor Ahmed, the sons of Nadeem Gurgnari, were on their way on a motorbike at the Eidgah area of Khuzdar when unidentified armed men attacked them, injuring them seriously. They were rushed to hospital but Siraj died from wounds. Lawmen reached the crime site and cordoned off the area. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far. When contacted, Khuzdar Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Abdul Rahim confirmed the onslaught and said the injured had been shifted to the Combined Military Hospital.
He was stated to be in critical condition. Condemning the attack, the Balochistan Union of Journalists (BUJ) reiterated demand for stepped up measures return peace to the district and bringing the culprits to justice. In a statement, the union said Nadeem Gurgnari had been receiving life threats for the last several months. For the past month, target killings crippled life in Khuzdar where markets remained close and roads wore a deserted look. Journalists have been facing deep troubles in the district of Balochistan that remains a risky place for the media people who have been forced to limit their professional activities. On September 29, Khuzdar Press Club General Secretary Abdul Haq was assassinated. Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Muhammad Aslam Raisani has taken notice and directed the home secretary and inspector general of police to take steps for the restoration of peace in the district.
