Peshawar: ANP woman MNA survives attempt on life
PESHAWAR: A lawmaker from Kohat and her spouse escaped an attempt on their life on Sunday, police said. They said Awami National Party’s Member National Assembly Khurshid Begum was on the way to Kohat along with her husband Saeed Shah when unidentified gunmen opened fire on their car on the Peshawar–Kohat Road. The bullets hit the car, but the lawmaker, her spouse and two other occupants of the vehicle remained unhurt. The police launched search operation in the area after the firing incident, but no arrest could be made.
Eyewitnesses said the armed men, who were lying in wait, opened fire on the car.
Meanwhile, talking to reporters at their residence in Kohat, Khurshid Begum and her husband Saeed Shah termed the attack an act of terrorism and said such cowardly attacks would not stop them from serving the nation. They vowed to continue making efforts for uplift of their area.
It may be recalled that the couple were attacked in the recent past as well. Saeed Shah sustained injuries in that attack on May 16 while Khurshid Begum escaped unhurt.
Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, National Assembly Speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza, ANP Chief Asfandyar Wali Khan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ameer Haider Hoti and Senior Minister Bashir Ahmad Bilour condemned the latest attack on Khurshid Begum and her husband.
