Karachi: 3 more shot dead within 30 minutes
KARACHI: Pakistan economic hub continued to bleed at the hands of sustained violence on Wednesday as three more people were gunned down in the city within thirty minutes, bringing today’s death toll to 11, SAMAA reported. Police said the firing incidents took place in Manghopir locality, Jahangir Road area near Teenhati and Korangi Sector 51-C where armed miscreants shot dead three youths in separate drive-by attacks. Their bodies were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed hospital. However, identity of the victims was not immediately known if they were associated with any religious or political group.
Police said the drive-by assaults were carried out in different area at around 8:30am, claiming lives of three people within 30 minutes, despite a ban on pillion riding in the city. Seven people were reportedly killed overnight.
The fresh wave of political and sectarian violence have gripped the city, with police and Rangers carrying out ‘targeted operations’ in various restive parts, arresting some 60 suspected criminals late on Tuesday.
Officials said the CID police also seized weapons, hand grenades and explosives during raids in Bilal Colony, Shamsi Colony, Model Colony, Gulshan-e-Maimar, Awami Colony.
Karachi’s restive Orangi Town locality remained tense after Tuesday’s killing of five people. Shops and business activates remained closed today as funeral of the victims were being observed there.
