Karachi: 6 cell phone snatchers held
KARACHI: Six cell phone snatchers on Tuesday were apprehended by police officers patrolling the Florence Market in the North Nazimabad area. The officials also seized five TT pistols, 20 cell phones, two motorcycles and Rs45, 000 cash. Those arrested include Azmat Ali, Mohammad Yunus Khan, Saeed Khan alias Baja, Imran, Mohammad alias Mittal and Javed Khan. SSP North Nazimabad Division Khurram Waris said that the police had been looking for the accused for a long time. The culprits had also robbed a bank of Rs45, 000 recently, he added.
Waris said that other groups operating on a small scale were also involved in robberies and snatchings in the city. Speaking about the current situation of target killings in the metropolis, he said more than 25 lives had been claimed in the past three days. He also said the police was busy protecting funeral processions in the city. “Our job is to protect the bulk of the people who gather on streets. Even if we are frowned at over this, we have to provide security to them.”
Explaining elements involved in the recent spate of target killings, Waris said: “The Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan and Shiite groups, retaliating against sectarian killings, are active at the moment.” He added that there were a few elements that were taking advantage of the escalating violence in the city.
