Islamabad: Police claim big gains
ISLAMABAD: The Crime Investigation Agency and Anti-Car Lifting Cell of Islamabad police announced on Thursday that it has arrested 113 persons during the last one month for their alleged involvement in dacoities, snatching and lifting vehicles, fraudulent activities and recovered 29 cars, stolen items worth Rs 37,00,000, two motorbikes, 23 pistols and gold ornaments from their possession. Addressing a press conference, here, Inspector General of Police Islamabad Bani Amin Khan spoke highly of young police officer SP (Investigation) Mustansar Hussain Feeroz who was assigned special task to resolve the crime cases of heinous nature.
At a press conference, the IG said SP Mustansar did not disappoint him as he along with various police teams worked day and night to accomplish the task and busted five criminals gangs for their involvement in burglaries, car thefts, selling diesel and petrol of official vehicles, possessing fake foreign currency and drug peddling activities.
He unveiled that CIA Police teams recovered gold ornaments, cash Rs 3,76,000, three stolen vehicles, two motorbikes, laptops, computer, amplifiers, digital cameras, televisions, eight mobile phones, generator, UPS, mobile cards, 845 liter diesel, 230 liters, fake US dollars, 25 fake driving and weapon license, 23 pistols, 3.675 kilogram hashish, 432 wine bottles, 650 liquor bottles, seven drums of liquor and 12 cartons of beer from these nabbed persons.
Meanwhile, teams of Anti-Car Lifting Cell of Islamabad Police headed by DSP Rukhsar Mehdi also arrested 33 car–lifters and recovered 26 stolen cars from their possession worth millions of rupees. Out of these 26 stolen cars, eight cars were lifted from Islamabad.
Flanked by SSP Islamabad Yaseen Farooq and SP Mustansar Feeroz, the IGP said that crime rate had reduced in Capital during current year and no incident of terrorism occurred reflecting the hard work of policemen committed to secure the lives of the citizens. He said that dacoity as well as car theft incidents had also reduced and the Islamabad police are trying to completely overcome such nature of criminal activities.
He said that CIA and ACLC have been revamped recently with the appointment of well-reputed officers there and their performance is very much satisfactory so far.
Various ACLC teams have been sent to KPK and raids are being conducted from Batagram to Dera Ismail Khan to arrest the car thieves and receivers of stolen car.
Bani Amin said that ratio of car theft has reduced in Islamabad during the current year and efforts are underway to trace the criminals involved in various kidnapping cases here. He hinted towards earliest success in such cases as efficient police officers are working on it.
To a question, the Islamabad police chief said that Heli Unit has been set up while 40 policemen of Anti-Terrorist Squads are being provided training for effective vigilance through the use of helicopter.
Regarding security arrangements during Muharram ul Haram, Bani Amin Khan said that security plan was very much effective last year and Islamabad Police is very much ready to ensure implementation on elaborate security plan this year along with assistance of Rangers and FC.
The IGP said that it is the prime responsibility of police to ensure protection to the lives and property of citizens and force will leave no stone unturned to accomplish this task. He also appreciated the efforts of CIA Police as well AC LC teams and awarded cash and commendation certificates to the policemen who performed well.
Later, the IGP handed over the keys of recovered vehicles to their actual owners who also appreciated Islamabad police for their outstanding performance.
