Rawalpindi: 79 arrested over marriage act violation
RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi police have arrested 79 people and registered 63 cases for defying the marriage act during this year. According to sources, Rawalpindi CPO Azhar Hameed Khokhar said that the police had forwarded challans of 32 cases to the courts from January 1 to November 10. He said that during the current month, 24 cases were registered under the act and 34 people were arrested. The CPO said that the ban on aerial firing and fireworks on marriages was strictly implemented in the district.
He said that such activities were not only troublesome for the neighbours but also dangerous for the participants of the events; therefore these activities could not be allowed. Around 35 cases were registered in police stations in the Rawal division, 17 in Potohar division and 11 in Saddar division.
