Lahore: Killer’s arrest kept secret for 7 months
LAHORE: The CIA police have kept the arrest of a murderer, wanted for the past seven months, under wraps for the past three days, The News has learnt. Arrested youth Umar Riaz alias Pata, son of Riaz Hussain of Street No 108, House No 9, Koocha Qasaban, Main Bazaar, Mozang Lahore, gunned down victim Shoaib Butt of Attaullah Street Mozang over a minor issue almost seven months back. Victim Mohammad Shoaib Butt alias Shaboo went to a local tea stall near his house to take tea on April 22, 2012 when Mohammad Umar alias Pata approached him and fired shots at him. As a result, Shoaib received fatal bullet wounds.
He was taken to a local hospital where he succumbed to wounds. Mozang police registered a case against Umar under Sections 302 PPC on the complaint of victim’s father Abdul Hameed Dar.
Accused Umar had nursed a grudge against Shoaib, as he shot and wounded him on November 7, 2010, over a minor issue. According to Umar, he was standing at a Chowk when Shoaib asked him to leave the area. Umar paid no heed to his warning, upon which Shoaib shot and wounded him and his friend Mohammad Sajid. A case in this regard was registered against Shoaib on the complaint of Mohammad Sajid.
Shahid, who happened to be an elder brother of Umar, told that Umar was currently residing in the house of a distant relative in Gujranwala and did not have any communication with them. According to Shahid, three friends, including Usman and Mohsin, met Umar at his place in the wee hours of November 18, 2012, and spent a few hours there. Meanwhile, a police team raided Umar’s place and arrested him and his three friends. Police brought them to Lahore and detained them at the CIA City Kotwali without bringing their arrest on record, he added.
While talking to this scribe, Shahid said delay in bringing Umar’s arrest on record caused fear to his family members who suspected that the police would eliminate him in a fake encounter. Responding to a query, he said the police did not harass them in connection with the said case, add that the CIA police were not proceeding against Umar in accordance with the law by not bringing his arrest on record.
