Karachi: 2 accused remanded in Rs500m corruption case
KARACHI: An accountability court on Tuesday granted 15– day physical remand of two officials, Sikandar Ali Abro and Ali Hasan, in a 500–million–rupee corruption case. Abro, a CSP officer of the accounts cadre, and Ali Hasan, an accountant, were arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB Sindh) on charges of misappropriating Rs500 million in the accountant general’s (AG) office, a press release issued by the bureau here said. The NAB Sindh is investigating the financial scam in the Hyderabad accounts office and detected misappropriation of huge amounts in the heads of pension, general provident fund and wages account, totalling half a billion rupees.
During the course of the inquiry, Rs200 million was recovered from the accused and efforts were being made to trace the remaining amount. The case was initiated in March this year after a government official posted in the DAO Hyderabad systematically plundered the government funds, said the NAB statement.
