Karachi: 2 jailed for 5 years
KARACHI: A sessions court sentenced on Monday two men to five years in prison in an attempted murder case. Mohammad Hanif and Sharfuddin were found guilty of attempting to kill members of a raiding police team in March this year within the remit of the Kalakot police station. Additional District and Sessions Judge (south) Shagufta Siddiqui pronounced her verdict after recording testimonies of witnesses and final arguments from both sides. The court also imposed a fine of Rs25,000 each and in case of non-payment the convicts would have to undergo an additional one–month imprisonment.
A case (FIR 391/12) was registered against the accused under Sections 324 (attempted murder), 353 (criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
The accused were in custody and the court ruled that they were entitled to the benefit of Section 382-B (period of detention to be considered while awarding sentence of imprisonment) of the criminal procedure code.
