Lahore: Cop forces addict to sell drugs
LAHORE: An ASI posted at Mozang police station has forced a drug addict to start selling drugs in the area. Kashif Pervez alias Lakhan, a resident of Haji Lal Street No 119 Mozang, who earlier used an injectable drug and was now a chronic user of heroin, said that ASI Nawaz made him a phone call and asked him to sell drugs in the area. He regretted that ASI Nawaz was pressurising him to sell drugs instead of chalking out result-oriented strategy in its respective jurisdiction to curb illegal trafficking of drugs.
The ASI asked him to conclude a monetary deal with him and start trafficking drugs in the limits of Mozang police station, he added.
He said that ASI Nawaz had warned him that he would implicate him in a false drug case, if he did not materialise his plan. Kashif said that Mozang police were not ready to pull up their socks to tighten noose against illegal trafficking of narcotics. He said that the police station had got the list of the persons who were infamous in drug–peddling but no action was being taken against them. Jahra White, Qasim alias Shagirdon, Naveed alias Tola, Agha and many others were wholeheartedly pushing drugs in the area, he added.
He further said that Kot Abdullah Shah, Chah Pichwara, Muslim Gunj, Kanak Mandi, Qureshi Mohalla, Machhiwala Chowk, Punjab Mahal Road, and Park Lane are the bastions of drug–peddlers. Mostly beggars and auto rickshaw owners are the soft targets of the kingpins who give them narcotics to sell on commission basis, he added. He said that heroin and charas were the most widely trafficked drugs in Mozang area and they were easy to find in almost any part of its limits. He said that heroin came in powder form and was usually melted, injected, or smoked before use. He said that pipes and syringes were common heroin implements but he used spoon or aluminum foil nearby in order to heat or melt the drug before using. “I also snort the drug from a flat surface using a tube placed in one nostril,” he added.
There are several physical signs associated with heroin addiction on Lakhan’s body. Slurred speech, drowsiness and signs of confusion are other common signs of Lakhan who is currently under the influence of drugs.
This correspondent telephonically contacted the ASI Nawaz for his comment but he did not attend the call.
