Karachi: Alleged extortionists among 53 accused overpowered
KARACHI: Police on Thursday claimed to have apprehended at least 53 accused, including alleged extortionists and absconders in separate raids and seized heavy cache of weapons from their possession. In the first raid, Special Investigation Unit (SIU) claimed to have apprehended at least two extortionists from Qasba colony in Orangi town and recovered extortion slips and weapons form their possession. An SIU official said that on a tip-off, a SIU team conducted a raid and claimed to have detained alleged extortionists Naqeeb Ullah and Naimat Ullah.
Officer further said that the accused were involved in at least dozen extortion bids in paper market. He said that more raids were conducted on their pointation to arrest their accomplices. Further investigation was underway.
Meanwhile, Jackson police also detained two alleged accused involved in killing two policemen and recovered one Kalashnikov and one TT pistol from their possession. An official said that accused were Ameen and Shahid, adding that in preliminary investigation, they had confessed to kill ASI Abbas and Taria in 2010.
Separately, East and West zones of police also claimed to have detained at least 49 accused, including absconders, proclaimed offender, during last 24 hours and recovered heavy cache of weapons from their possession.
