Sialkot: Police smashed 137 criminal gangs during 2012
SIALKOT: The district police have smashed as many as 137 inter–district gangs of dacoits, thieves, car and cattle–lifters and arrested 466 members of these gangs wanted by the Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Hafizabad and Gujranwala districts police in 871 heinous nature cases during the outgoing year. DPO Afzaal Ahmed Kausar disclosed this while giving a detailed briefing to the media here the other day. SP (Investigations) Asad Sarfraz Khan and District Peace Committee senior member Zafar Malik were also present on the occasion.
The DPO said that the district police recovered the looted valuables including gold ornaments, cash, stolen and snatched motorcycles, cars and cattle worth more than Rs580 million during the year.
He said that the district police also traced out 375 old cases and 496 new cases of heinous nature during the last year and sent their challans to local courts.
He said that the police also arrested as many as 3,400 notorious proclaimed offenders (POs) and 1,718 court absconders during 2012. The police also recovered a bulk of illicit weapons including 35 Kalashnikovs, 254 rifles, 95 guns, 1,593 pistols, 34 revolvers, five carbines and 40,186 bullets from the criminals during a special crackdown launched on criminals in the district during the last year.
The DPO revealed that the police also recovered 102–kgs of heroin, 302-kgs of charas, 5-kg poppy, 12 bags of Bhang, 9,281 bottles of wine and unearthed 46 working distilleries during the corresponding period.
