Karachi: 472 profiteers jailed during 2012
KARACHI: As many as 472 profiteers were arrested and jailed, while 5387 others were imposed fine of Rs 7,695,200 during the campaigns launched at different times in the year 2012 against traders charging higher than the rates fixed by the government. Deputy Commissioner Central Dr Syed Saif-u-Rehman told media at his office on Wednesday that fine of Rs 2,461,400 was recovered from the traders in New Karachi area, Rs 1,760,000 from North Nazimabad, Rs 1,549,200 from Nazimabad, Rs 1,026,600 from Gulberg and Rs 898,000 from Liaquatabad.
He said different teams during visits to different markets imposed fines on the profiteers. “The drive against profiteers would continue to provide relief to the citizens,” he said asking the consumers to lodge complaints at Control Room (phone number 021–36966510) established at his office, so that action could be taken.
