SDO arrested for bribe in Toba Tek Singh
TOBA TEK SINGH: An Anti–Corruption Establishment team led by a magistrate arrested Buildings SDO Sabir Sarwar on the charge of receiving bribe from a contractor. Contractor Naseer Ahmad informed the ACE officials that SDO Sarwar Sabir was demanding Rs 12,000 for approval of a bill for his completed work. Magistrate Asif Iqbal, ACE Circle Officer Ashfaq Rasool and others raided the office and caught the SDO with marked currency notes.
However, the SDO claimed that the contractor had implicated him in the case to blackmail him. He said that the contractor had already managed such raids and later withdrawn the charges against employees in past. After the SDO’s arrest, all the employees locked the offices and staged a demonstration. They termed the arrest unjustified. Later, the ACE officials produced the SDO in court, which sent him to jail for 14 days.
