Lahore: Man gets 72 years for acid attack
LAHORE: Anti–Terrorism Court on Thursday awarded 72–year jail to a man on charges of throwing acid on Mayo Hospital nurses. The court has also directed the convict Irfan to pay Rs 3.2 million to the victims. On August 15, 2011, accused Irfan of Narang Mandi forced his entry into the emergency ward of Mayo Hospital and threw acid on his estranged wife Rehmana Liaquat as she refused to listen to him.
Acid also fell on nurses’ Shama Naz and Shazia, patient Sabira, midwife Bashiran and ward boy Imran and left them injured. Later, police registered a case against Irfan under Anti–Terrorism Act and submitted challan in the court. On Thursday, the court after hearing the final arguments of both parties convicted Irfan.
