RAWALPINDI: The complainant of the Peshawar Road armed robbery nominated seven suspects involved in the looting of over Rs30 million worth gold as well as foreign and local currency, police sources said. The Race Course Police have registered an FIR (Number 65) under Section 395 of the PPC against seven men — Mohammad Imran, Asif, Mohammad Basharat, Sajid Ali, Mohammad Kashaf, Shahid and Nasir — allegedly involved in the dacoity, police said, adding that the suspects were identified by the family members.
The gang of seven hit the house of top businessman of the country at Peshawar Road in the wee hours of Monday and took away cash (both local and foreign currency), gold ornaments and other valuables worth Rs30 million, police sources said.
The house was located right in front of the houses of the SP (Potohar) and one of the top officers of a sensitive organisation. The gunmen sneaked into the house of Asim Hamid (191–A, Main Peshawar Road) and held private security guards at gunpoint and asked them to chain dogs as there was about ten hunting dogs in the house, police sources said. After all hunting dogs were chained; the gunmen stormed into the house and held the family members at gunpoint.
The dacoits collected all mobile phone sets from the family members, gathered cash, including US dollars and UK pounds, gold ornaments and other valuables and left the house after locking the family members in a room. The dacoits also took away a Honda car, bearing registration number LEB–6461, and arms with them. Police said that the family was running industries in Faisalabad and has farms in Faisalabad and other parts of Punjab.
