Hafizabad: Police busted 209 POs
HAFIZABAD: On the special direction of the Gujranwala Division RPO, the district police launched a crackdown on anti–social elements across the district. During the crackdown, the district police nabbed 209 notorious proclaimed offenders involved in murder, dacoity, highway robbery and other heinous crimes during the month of January. This was disclosed by Acting DPO Athar Ismail while talking to newsmen here the other day. The DPO said that under Narcotics Act, total of 41 cases were registered and 2,457 gram of heroin, 1-kg charas, 67 liters of liquor were recovered during the correspondent period.
He said that under illegal Arms Possession Act, 34 cases were registered while two Kalashnikovs, seven rifles, 14 guns, 12 pistols, one carbine and 900 rounds of ammunition were recovered from 34 anti–social elements during the last month.
He further said that Crime Control Committees were being made functional at union council level and police patrolling was being intensified to prevent street crime, cattle–lifting, robbery and other crimes.
