Karachi: Nadra attack case suspect held
KARACHI: The investigation staff of District South arrested the prime suspect in the National Database & Registration Authority (Nadra) attack case on Sunday. Armed men had attacked the Nadra office situated near Nisaar Shaheed Park, Phase-II Ext, DHA, a few days ago and also beaten up the staff present there. Around 12 or 15 armed men, believed to be affiliated with a political party, had surrounded the entrance of the centre and forced its staff to receive and process their applications for Karachi–based computerised national identity cards.
As their application forms were incomplete and lacked supplementary documents, the staff members turned them away. This lead to chaos as the infuriated men started misbehaving. They manhandled the staff and smashed cameras, computers and other equipment at the centre.
In this regard, an FIR was lodged and Ali Kakar was nominated as the prime suspect of the case. According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Nasir Aftab of District South, a police team was formed under his supervision who gathered information from the video footage as well as other sources.
A tip was received on Sunday morning that the prime suspect was hiding in a house in Shireen Jinnah Colony. Consequently, a police team raided the place and arrested Ali Kakar after some resistance. Police also recovered a pistol from his possession.
