Karachi: 60kg opium, 100kg hashish seized
KARACHI: The staff of the Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) on Monday foiled a smuggling attempt at the Karachi–Gwadar Highway and seized 60 kilograms of opium and 100 kilograms of hashish. MCC Collector Dr Arsalan said Customs personnel were deployed at the Karachi–Gwadar Highway after receiving information of drugs being smuggled into Karachi from Gwadar in a goods vehicle.
While checking vehicles at the highway, the MCC staff signalled the driver of a truck to pull over, but the driver sped away. The MCC staff pursued the truck and intercepted it, and then arrested the driver and impounded his vehicle.
While searching the truck, 60kg of opium and 100kg of hashish worth millions of rupees were found hidden in crates of apples. The drugs were seized and a case was registered under the Customs Act.
