Karachi: 4 Lyari ‘gangsters’, 1 TTP man held
KARACHI: The Anti–Extremism Cell (AEC) on Thursday arrested four men belonging to the Lyari gang war group and one member of the Tehreek–e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Wali Rehman group during a raid conducted in the Docks area. The suspects were allegedly involved in more than 30 target killing, kidnapping for ransom and extortion cases.
The police found eight kilograms of charas, five hand grenades, two Kalashnikovs, three 9mm pistols and a number of live bullets in their possession.
AEC Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mohammad Aslam Khan in a press briefing said that an informant tipped them off about the whereabouts of the criminals planning devastating attacks on different political offices.
SSP Khan said his team was going to raid the suspects’ hideout in the Nullah Stop area when the accused saw them and opened fire. The police retaliated, leading to an encounter during which the five men were arrested.
During the initial investigation, four suspects namely Adil Khan, Zakir, Moeen and Sajid confessed of having links with the Lyari gang war group while Anwer Khan Mehsud admitted to being a member of the TTP Wali Rehman group.
The accused said that they operated outside Peerabad, Sohrab Goth and Manghopir areas.
SSP Khan said that Mehsud was also involved in fund raising for the TTP in the Sohrab Goth area. The notorious criminals were wanted in extortion and terrorism cases.
