Islamabad: 250 bottles of branded liquor seized
ISLAMABAD: The Customs Department seized a consignment of more than 250 bottles of branded liquor at the Benazir Bhutto International Airport (BBIA) during checking of luggage of passengers who landed in the wee hours of Wednesday, sources said. No passenger was arrested as three suspects left the lounge leaving 8 bags behind, sources said. But, other sources claimed that the Customs staff allegedly managed their escape on a telephone call, however, the responsible officers of Customs denied this allegation.
The Customs, however, confirmed that a consignment of 166 bottles of foreign liquor was seized with a large number of laptops.
The officials claimed that it was the biggest haul of liquor at the Benazir Bhutto International Airport.
The officials said that in pursuance of information strict vigilance was kept over passengers who had come from Dubai, but the suspects, sensing danger of being arrested, escaped from the scene leaving their luggage in the International Arrival Lounge. They added that the Customs officials took 8 bags into their custody, which were found unattended after clearance of all passengers.
