LAHORE: CIA Cantt police arrested two persons for kidnapping Farah Riaz, an Urdu lecturer of Government Islamia College for Women, Cooper Road. Farah Riaz, 53, a resident of Taj Bagh, went missing on Feb 24, 2013. Farah had been serving as an Urdu lecturer at Government Islamia College Cooper Road for the last 13 years. Talking to The News, Tariq Riaz, the complainant of the FIR, said that the investigating officer had disappointed them a lot by not updating them about any progress in the case.
On February 24, Farah Riaz left her house to attend a function somewhere in Sheikhupura. She went there along with her driver Suleman Tahir and his accomplice Mohammad Imran. Family sources said that Farah admonished Suleman for calling his friend Imran for accompanying them. Suleman satisfied her by saying that Imran was accompanying them for helping them during their journey. However, Farah’s family got worried when she did not turn up. The family members contacted Suleman three to four days back who informed them that she had gone to Islamabad in connection with an official task.
To avoid family’s suspicion, the accused Suleman kept in touch with the family through his and Farah’s cell number. Tariq Riaz said that the accused Suleman switched off his and Farah’s cell phones when they started pursuing him repeatedly to get information about the whereabouts of his sister. He said that the investigating officer should be bound to update the complainant of the FIR as he was making the case more mysterious for them by not updating them.
It was further learnt that the victim Farah Riaz went to Sheikhupura to attend a function on the invitation of her driver Suleman Tahir.
When contacted, the investigating officer Sajwar Tariq said that the accused Suleman and Imran threw the victim Farah Riaz in the canal in Sheikhupura. The IO said that they were taking measures to fish out the body the accused confessed to have thrown in the canal almost a week back. Responding to another query, the IO said that they had also recovered the victim’s car from the possession of the arrested persons.
Ghaziabad police have registered a case against accused Suleman Tahir and Mohammad Imran on the complaint of the victim’s brother Tariq Riaz.
