Karachi: Rangers arrest 104 target killers in 70 days
KARACHI: Pakistan Rangers, Sindh on Tuesday claimed to have apprehended at least 896 suspects, 104 target killers and 39 extortionists and recovered over 782 weapons from their possession from January till March 12, 2013. Addressing a press conference at Muslim Jinnah Courts Building, Rangers headquarters in Karachi, Colonel Shafiq elaborated that during the current year Rangers personnel conducted at least 15 operations and 97 raids in separate parts of the city.
At least 569 culprits affiliated with banned and terrorist organisations were apprehended in these operations and 620 weapons were recovered from their possession. He informed that during snap checking Rangers arrested 327 suspects and seized 162 weapons from their possession, adding that 104 target killers and 39 extortionists were also apprehended in separate parts of the city. He said that the recovered weapons during the operation and raids were SMGs, Kalashnikovs, riffles, repeaters, TT pistols cartridges, and rocket launchers. He said that at least 15 operations were conducted including two each in Keamari, Orangi, SITE, Bin Qasim, Mailr, Gaddap, and one each in Korangi, Shah Faisal and Clifton.
Similarly various raids were conducted including three in Clifton, Keamari two, Lyari 11, Saddar nine, Jamshed town 10, Baldi four, Orangi Town seven, SITE two, Liaquatabad seven, Gulberg one, North Naziamabad four, New Karachi seven, Bin Qasim three, Korangi two, Landhi two, Shah Faisal four, Malir two and Gulshan–e-Iqbal six. He informed that in retaliation of targeted operation and raids, the culprits targeted the Pakistan Rangers personnel in different areas of the city, in which at least seven personnel were killed and over 44 injured during the last six months. He said the citizens welcomed them during the operation and raids and informed about the criminal and suspects in their areas. He added that over 789 complaints had been received on Rangers complaint cell.
