Karachi: Police claim arrest of Abbas Town perpetrators
KARACHI: Police claimed to have busted a militant group involved in Abbas Town blast that claimed at least 50 lives, wounded hundred others and damaged scores of apartments. In a press conference held at the Central Police Office on Thursday evening, head of the investigation team of district south, DIG Shahid Hayat revealed the arrest of six alleged militants involved in the Abbas Town blast. He informed that the arrests were made following the information provided by intelligence agency.
DIG Hayat that the suspects were arrested in two separate raids conducted in Sea View area. The two suspects, including Khairuddin aka Mansoor and Ishaq were traveling in a Toyota Corolla car.
He said that their arrests were made when the suspects were transporting 100 kilogramme of explosives to an undisclosed location, adding that two pistols were also recovered from their possession.
Hayat further said that later on the information provided by the arrested culprits, the police conducted a raid at militants’ hideout in Manghopir area from where their four more companions including, Irfan, Inamullah aka Mola, Bashirullah aka Champu and Sher Alam were arrested.
A huge cache of weapons, explosive material, hand grenades and ammunitions were also recovered from the militants’ hideout.
The arrested suspects and explosive material and weapons recovered from their possession were not produced during the press conference, however, Hayat said that the arrested militants belonged to the outlawed Tehreek–e–Taliban Pakistan. He said that Bashirullah was the mastermind of Abbas Town blast and the culprits used Suzuki pickup in the attack.
