Rawalpindi: Police bust gang of looters; cash, arms seized
RAWALPINDI: The city police claimed to have arrested four members of a five–member intra–district gang besides recovering stolen stuff including cash and weapons from their possession, informed police here on Thursday. According to Station House Officer (SHO) Inspector Police Station (PS) Sadiqabad Malik Allah Yar, the police on a tip-off conducted a raid in a place and held four members of an intra–district gang and also recovered cash and weapons from their possession. However, the fifth member of the gang was still at large, he added.
During the course of investigation, the four members, identified as Taimoor, Zafran, Ali Raza and Ramiz, had confessed their involvement in 32 crimes including dacoities, street crimes and injuring people during dacoity bids over showing resistance, SHO said adding that the further investigation was on.
To a query, Malik Allah Yar replied that teams have been constituted to apprehend the fifth member of the intra–district gang.
Meanwhile, the police during an ongoing campaign against anti–social elements nabbed 17 accused including 3 kite sellers and firework dealers from different localities of the city, informed the police spokesman.
As per details, PS New Town officials raided the Commercial Market and arrested a kite seller namely Qeewan Nasir recovering 40 kites and 7 metallic strings. A case was registered against the accused.
In another action against the firework dealers, PS Ganjmandi officials arrested two accused Mohsin and Javed and recovered fireworks from their possession. Cases were filed against them.
The police also arrested 14 people from various parts of the city on account of drug peddling and having illegal weapons. A total of 5165 grams of Charas, 125 grams of heroine, 60 bottles liquor, 5 pistols of 30 bore with 20 bullets, 1 dagger, 1 stolen laptop and a mobile phone were recovered from the possessions of the arrested accused, informed police spokesman.
