Karachi: Accused of Memon’s cousin murder held
KARACHI: Crime Investigation Department of police claimed to have arrested an accused involved in the murder of former Sindh information minister Sharjeel Inam Memon’s cousin. Initial investigation revealed that former minister’s cousin was not shot dead in an incident of targeted killing but he was killed on offering resistance during a car snatching bid.
According to details, Javed Aziz Memon, who was the regional manager of a private bank, was gunned down near Habib Bank Chowrangi within the limits of SITE-A police station on January 2, 2013. He was on way to home from the bank when some unidentified armed riders intercepted his car and shot him with point blank range.
Addressing a press conference, CID SP Mazhar Mashwani claimed to resolve the case held at his office, CID Civil Line on Wednesday evening informed media about the arrest of two suspects, allegedly involved in the murder of Memon’s cousin. He said that the suspects were identified as Najeebullah and Raheemullah arrested after an exchange of fire, when CID police conducted a raid on a tip-off about their presence in Frontier Mor area.
He said that the arrested persons were involved in various cases of street crime and during initial course of interrogation, they revealed to have killed Sharjeel’s cousin over offering resistance when they tried to snatch his car on gunpoint. SP Mashwani said that besides killing former minister’s cousin, the accused persons also revealed to have killed about half dozen more people over offering resistance.
He said that another suspect Irshad aka Majboor, allegedly involved in various cases of crime and murder, was apprehended from Northern Bypass. He said that the culprit also confessed to have killed at least four people, including three of a family members over offering resistance in a robbing bid.
Meanwhile, Rangers claimed to have apprehended at least 29 suspects including suspected gangsters and political workers during separate targeted raids. According to ranger spokesperson, at least 20 suspects were taken into custody during targeted raids in parts of Lyari including Jumman Shah, Kashti Chowk, Gul Mohammad Lane, Kalakot, Singu Lane, Aath Chowk and Phool Patti Lane. During the operation the entire localities were cordoned off and no one was allowed to go in or out. Sniffer dogs were also along with the Rangers personnel during the operation.
Rangers also claimed to have recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition from a mock grave situated outside the residence of notorious Lyari gangster, Noor Muhammad aka Baba Ladla.
Elsewhere, Rangers also claimed to have arrested at least nine political workers including Sector Incharge Manzoor aka Lamba during a raid conducted at a sector office of a political party in Landhi area. The suspects were shifted to undisclosed location for further questioning.
