Police foil terror bid; rockets recovered in Rawalpindi
RAWALPINDI: Police on Saturday foiled a major terror plot by recovering rockets and detonators from a private housing society, located some 800 metres away from Adyala Jail.Police also combed the several areas on Adyala Road; however, no suspect could be held. SP Saddar Circle Waheed–ur–Rehman Khattak, while talking to The Nation, said that police on information of a watchman recovered 4 rockets and 4 detonators from a private housing society namely Shumal Housing Society.
He added that the watchman noticing the movement of two suspects immediately informed officials of Police Chowky Adyala, who came into action quickly and raided the place. On seeing police, two suspects left a bag in a Nullah and run away, SP said, adding that upon searching police found 4 rockets and 4 detonators from the bag. After, a search operation was conducted with the help of sniffer dogs, SP stated. On a query, Khattak replied that founding the explosives near Adyala Jail indicated that the terrorists might target Adyala Jail or Shia community. He said that City Police Officer (CPO) Azhar Hameed Khokhar also announced Rs 50,000 prize for the watchman who passed timely information to police. CPO Azhar Hameed Khokher, when contacted, said that police with the help of Allah almighty have saved the city from a big terror attack. He said that a case was registered with the police while further investigation was underway.
