BAHAWALPUR: The Baghdadul Jadid police on Tuesday arrested 35 people, including women, for blocking Baghdad Road to traffic near a railway station to protest alleged assault by rivals. A Baloch group attacked its rivals after storming their houses at Shafiqabad near Tibba Badar Shair. Armed men of Dona Baloch group attacked the families of Ali Baloch and Muhammad Bakhsh, leaving them injured. The victims on Tuesday morning took to Hasilpur Road and protested against the police for failing to protect them. A police team tried to placate the protesters but later arrested them on their refusal to disperse.
Later, the families of those detained demonstrated outside the DPO office, seeking action against the assailants. In another incident, residents of Nauabad village reached outside the DPO office by tractor–trailers and raised slogans demanding the suspension of the Sammasatta police SHO.
