Karachi: 24 detained in crackdown
KARACHI: Twenty-four suspects were picked up by the police on Thursday in targeted operations in Baldia Town, Muhammad Khan Colony and Peerabad. Seven kilograms of explosives packed in pressure cookers and tennis balls, and a large number of ball bearings were also seized. Twenty weapons of different calibres, including sub–machine guns and repeaters, and a large quantity of ammunition was found with the suspects.
The crackdown was launched on information regarding the presence of anti–state elements in the outskirts of Karachi, police said. In the wee hours of Thursday, 250 personnel of the District West police, including lady police officers, conducted the targeted raids. Further investigations are under way.
